All past GM GPS updates have been sold and delivered via disc. I received a mailer recently that the 2013 vehicle updates are for sale. They were saying for sale at $150 now but $200 regular. Of course nobody would ever do this but. These discs are not copy protected at all. People make copies to protect their investment in case of accidental damage.

If a copy ended up in your truck it would work just fine. Of course you should only copy the disc if you own it for your own purposes. I actually bought a disc on eBay that when arrived was a blatant copy. $45 and it worked just fine. The seller was no responsive to my claims and I never hardback from eBay.
